Unlike a lift recliner, The Independence Bed provides a full sleep surface and transitions between sleeping and supportive seated positions, allowing it to function as both a bed and a chair.
Its patented rotating design allows the bed to rotate 90 degrees from the sleeping position, helping make the transition in and out of bed easier.
Product Use & Operation
The Independence Bed requires a minimum of 20" of clearance on the rotating side to allow for proper operation.

No. The Independence Bed can be used with standard Twin or Twin XL fitted sheets, depending on the size purchased. A mattress protector may also be used.
As with other adjustable beds, we recommend keeping loose bedding positioned so it does not interfere with the bed's movement.
The Independence Bed is powered by household electricity. In the event of a power outage, the bed includes an emergency power-down feature that uses two 9V batteries to return the head and foot sections to a flat position when the bed is in Bed Mode.
If the bed is in Stand Mode, two 9V batteries do not provide enough power to return the bed to the flat position. Customers who would like additional protection during a power outage may consider using a backup power supply rated for at least 425VA / 225W. Based on our testing, a backup power supply meeting this minimum rating should provide sufficient power to operate the bed during a power outage. Always follow the backup power supply manufacturer's instructions and operating requirements.
Important: The two 9V batteries are intended for emergency use only. Do not leave them installed in the power supply during normal operation. Install them only when needed during a power outage and remove them once household power has been restored. Leaving the batteries installed for extended periods may prevent the bed from operating correctly when household power is available.
Refer to The Independence Bed User Manual for additional safety information and emergency procedures.
